The Governing Body of St. Michael’s School is made up of a number of members of our local community, including representatives from the school staff, parents of children at the school and other community figures.
As a Voluntary Aided school six of the governors are Foundation Governors, which mean they have been appointed by the Parochial Church Council in Kerry.
It aims to provide strategic direction to ensure that the learning opportunities the school provides encourage every pupil to reach his or her full potential. It works in partnership with the head teacher and the staff of the school to set targets, agree policies and priorities in line with statutory requirements, and to monitor and evaluate the outcomes for children, for staff and for the school as a whole.

Our school governors
- are volunteers;
- care about the teaching and learning of the children at St. Michael’s;
- represent those people with a key interest in the school, including parents, staff, the local community, the diocese and the LA;
- are part of a team which accepts responsibility for everything a school does;
- make time to commit to meetings and other occasions when needed;
- are willing to learn;
- are able to act as a critical friend who supports the school but also challenges and asks questions about how the school works and the standards it achieves;
- act as a link between parents, the local community, the diocese, the LA and the school.
