Powys local authority is one of six that form the consortium called ‘ERW’ (Powys, Ceredigion, Pembroke, Swansea and Carmarthen). Leaders in ERW have decided that Head teachers can no longer authorise time off school for family holidays; they want to give a strong message that time off school is disruptive to a child’s education and has a detrimental effect on their work and their results.
Absence due to family holidays in term time is recorded as unauthorised.
Whilst understanding the financial reasons for taking holidays in term time local authorities strongly recommend that parents plan family holidays during the school holidays whenever possible. It is very disruptive, not only to your child’s education but to the teaching of the class as a whole. If it is absolutely necessary to take holidays during term time, please complete a Notice of Absence Form (available from the school office or on the link below), and return it to the school office.
Please avoid holidays in May and early June when annual tests take place and be mindful that holidays taken at the end of the school year are less disruptive than holidays in September and October.
