We encourage all the children at St. Michael’s to stay as healthy as possible.
In November 2012 we achieved our fourth Healthy Schools award for promoting a healthy lifestyle to pupils through a healthy cookery club, numerous after-school sports clubs, encouraging daily exercise and promoting emotional and mental well-being.
This year, we have continued working towards Phase Five of the Healthy Schools’ awards and will shortly be assessed by a member of the Healthy Schools' Team. Initiatives such as the daily fruit tuck shop, which is run by pupils, ‘Walk to School Wednesdays’ and tooth-brushing in the Foundation Phase are ongoing, as is the provision of a wide range of after-school clubs, which encourage children to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
We have looked at emotional and mental health and well-being, focusing on different aspects each half-term. Assemblies and PSHE / PSD lessons have encouraged pupils to reflect upon topics such as 'Changes' - both positive and negative and how to cope with them- a valuable life- skill. We have also introduced half-termly work on Christian Values, such as Koinonia (community) and Endurance.
As a school we encourage pupils to bring healthy snacks for playtimes and healthy packed lunches. Water is available to all pupils and many choose to bring their own water bottles each day.
We thank parents for their support of our Healthy Schools’ ethos.
